Peace-loving

The Badjaos are sometimes referred to as the “vanishing tribe” for their population is dropping in number due to different factors which include diseases, competition with other dominant tribes (Yakan and Tausug), famine or starvation, and sometimes the lack of ability to cope with social change. An estimated of 40,000 Badjaos are still living in the Philippines.

With all of these down sides of their current situation, Badjaos still remain peace-loving individuals. They tolerate hardships, insults, lost opportunities, lack education, and inconveniences just to skip and to avoid trouble against people especially to those people not of their kind.

One evident that Badjaos are peace lovers is the location where they live. They prefer to live at coastal areas and islets for them to leave in peace and to be away from people.

Why are they discriminated through peace-loving?

This kind of mentality is brought by the discrimination of people against this specific tribe. People still don’t understand the trends why Badjaos chose to live in shorelines aside from fishing. They love peace and because of that they have to sacrifice their social engagement to other people who chose to judge them the other way around.
